Pathfinder ™ Project Financial Management Methodology
PATHFINDER™ is a unique methodology which “strengthens” the ability of organisations to deliver improved financial management in respect of their programmes and projects, including:
- enhanced budgeting
- cost management
- cost saving and avoidance strategy
- structured reporting
- financial governance and control
- reducing Total Cost of Ownership
Combined with experience, project management knowledge expertise, and academic research, CJM have created a set of “best practice ways of working” to enhance current programme financial management thinking.
The core PATHFINDER methodology was designed, developed and based on experience drawn from years working within large multi-national organisations, achieving a 100% success rate in working with those programmes, to realise on-target delivery of cost against budget.
PATHFINDER is in use across a wide variety of programmes of work; however the key to its success is continued improvement.
CJM is now in partnership with the University of Abertay, Dundee to further develop the methodology. Our aim is to develop the application of PATHFINDER through academic and organisational research, and to further study aspects of Financial Management, including Financial Management Culture within large organisations.
APPLICATION EXAMPLE; CJM / University of Abertay, Dundee has just completed for the UK Treasury / Efficiency and Reform Group's Office of Government and Commerce a White Paper on "Improving Portfolio, Programme and Project Financial Control, using the PATHFINDER methodology as a core aspect to the paper.
The published White Paper was recently used as the round table "discussion paper" for the project finance section at the "Best Practice Showcase".

The discussion was entitled "Project Financial Management", and lead by Dr M. Acaster, PPM Portfolio Office, Cabinet Office.
This is the prime exhibition and conference for best practice management activities in the UK and therefore CJM were delighted to be part of the event.
